UNESCO recognized AJANTA as the world’s greatest historical monument.
Ajanta Caves’ biggest attractions are ancient wall paintings which are drawn centuries before Da-Vinchi and detailed stone carvings.
These caves were known to local tribes until AD 1819 when British Sargent Robert Gill rediscovered this site.
The specialty of Ajanta is its magnificent and oldest paintings. Out of several caves found all over the world, Ajanta has the largest number of paintings. These paintings can be explored in the Ajanta Caves Guided Day Tour.
Paintings of Ajanta are far older than Vinci. There are 30 caves in Ajanta of which 9, 10, 19, 26 and 29 are chaitya-grihas and the rest are monasteries.
These caves were discovered in AD 1819 and were built up in the earlier 2nd century BC-AD. Most of the paintings in Ajanta are right from 2nd century BC-AD. Some of the paintings at Ajanta Caves goes about the fifth century AD and continued for the next two centuries.
All paintings show heavy religious influence and center around Lord Buddha, Bodhisattvas, various incidents from the life of Buddha, and the Jatakas. Tempera Technique is used for mud-plaster on the wall for the paintings. Travel with complete safety and comfort and spend max attention on destination.
